Chicken Tofu Shao Mai Recipe

Monday, March 24, 2014

This recipe is a revised version from my old blog.
I first saw this chicken dumpling recipe on TV, and wanted to try. This one is a better version since it's healthier and more tender because we are using Tofu.

What you need:
200g minced white chicken
1 cup of chopped cabbage
1 pack (200g) Tofu
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp grated ginger
salt to taste
1 pack Shao Mai wrapper
1/4 to half a cup of water

This recipe makes 30 shao mai dumplings.

Microwave or boil then drain the cabbage to soften and chop like this.
You can chop it a bit more finely, but I prefer this size to retain the crunchy texture.

Mix all the other ingredients into a bowl, like this.
Make sure to properly drain the tofu so the mixture won't be watery.

I am sure you all know how to wrap it, but just to make sure - Do it like this. ;)

It might be faster to prepare like this. This is about a tbsp of the mixture.

Put in a pan, and pour in water.
Put the cover and steam for about 20 minutes or until the water has dried out.
Remove the cover, and wait until the bottom has become golden brown.
(This is how it looked when I checked If all the water has dried out or not.)

And done! A healthy AND yummy Shao Mai dumpling!
Enjoy! :)))

P.S You can shape the extra mixture into a burger, plastic wrap, then put in the freezer to save for another time!
